TECHNICAL NOTES
From its inception, the M&K RealTime Digital Masterpiece Series had to be special in every respect. Well-loved classical works were selected with the objective of choosing those not only worthy of new recordings, but capable of displaying M&K's new digital techniques for the optimum pleasure of owners of fine record reproducing equipment. The recording process, from type of microphones and their utilization, type of digital recorder, disc cutting lathe technology to special plating and pressing, represent the finest in modern rcording technology.
As in any multi-process system, the weakest link in a chain can greatly limit the end result. This series was not only recorded using one of today's finest digital systems, the new Sony PCM-1600 16-bit Digital Studio Recorder; but every technique learned by M&K in making its highly acclaimed direct-to-disc records was applied. These digital recordings, using the M&K RealTime Recording Process, include special transformerless AKG C-414 condenser microphones fitted with a new type of diaphragm adapted by AKG to M&K's specific requirements, M&K's custom-built totally passive microphone mixer, and M&K's own Neumann SAL/SX-74 600 watt/channel disc cutting system modified to have all D.C. coupled electronics. And, as with M&K RealTime's direct-to-disc recordings, the finest European plating and pressing techniques were employed. Therefore, we have pride in presenting these discs which represent a combination of the finest elements of the most sophisticated recording technology.
