A group of rogues steal a scroll granting its bearer the property of the land of Aurocastro in Apulia (south of Italy). They elect a shaggy knight, Brancaleone from Norcia, as their leader, and decide to get possession of this supposedly wealthy land. Many adventures will occurr during the journey.

Un cavaliere in viaggio per prendere possesso del feudo di Aurocastro, viene assalito dai briganti che dopo averlo sopraffatto lo gettano in un fosso. Un membro della banda, avendo trovato la pergamena che attesta l'investitura del feudo, convince l'amico Brancaleone a sostituirsi al cavaliere.
A knight traveling to take possession of the fief of Aurocastro, is attacked by the brigands who after having overwhelmed him throw him into a ditch. A member of the band, having found the parchment attesting the investiture of the feud, convinces his friend Brancaleone to replace the knight.
