Duration: 49 Minutes
Discussed Today:
Gov. Terry McAuliffe: 50% chance I'll challenge Trump in 2020
On the week Elizabeth Warren became the first Democratic candidate to challenge Trump, Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe made news by telling MSNBC’s Ari Melber there’s now a 50% chance he’ll jump in the 2020 race. He also discussed his claim that Democratic presidential candidates should avoid “dishonest populism,” asserting he was not referring to Warren, when pressed by Melber, who noted she was currently the only candidate in the race.
Michael Cohen's lawyer on how Cohen will expose Trump to Congress
In an exclusive interview, Michael Cohen’s legal advisor, Lanny Davis, joins MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber, to discuss the bombshell revelation that Trump’s former lawyer will testify before the House Oversight Committee in a public, on-camera hearing, weeks before he reports to prison. In a wide-ranging interview, Davis reveals that he has had “constructive discussions” about Cohen potentially appearing before other House Committees, that the days of Cohen “lying for Trump are over” and that they will work to ensure testimony is “voluntary rather than under a subpoena”.
Michael Cohen ready for his “John Dean” moment
Michael Cohen has agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee in the weeks before he reports to prison, in an on-camera, public hearing that has already been compared to the Nixon era. In 2018, Cohen’s own advisor, Lanny Davis, said: “Remember John Dean? It’s just the beginning”. Watergate Prosecutor, Nick Akerman and attorney Maya Wiley break down what the public could potentially learn from Cohen’s testimony. Wiley tells Ari Melber that the testimony has the potential to be “even more important than the Mueller report”.
Trump 'Art of the Deal' co-author: It’s been fraud all along
President Trump has failed to make a deal that could end the ongoing Government shutdown, having been rebuffed by Mexico and the U.S. Congress in his attempts to get funding for a border wall. Former Trump Organization Executive, Barbara Res, tells Ari Melber Trump never accepts responsibility and that with Trump, “it’s always someone else’s fault”. Co-author of Trump’s “Art of the Deal” Tony Schwartz also joins the discussion, noting that most of the deals discussed in the book “were failures” and the deals “since then have overwhelmingly been failures”.
