Lynyrd Skynyrd - Skynyrds First [Complete Muscle Shoals] 1971 ak320

The band started to record at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in 1971. Bassist Junstrom was fired and Larry Steele took over, followed by Leon Wilkeson in 1972. The songs from these sessions were not released initially but eventually were released as Skynyrd’s First…and Last in 1978 with an expanded version in 1998. Al Kooper got the band signed to MCA Records and the band went to work on their debut album. Wilkeson left the band for a short time and Ed King from The Strawberry Alarm Clock took his spot on bass. After Wilkeson returned, King switched to guitar. Roadie Billy Powell also joined the band on piano after playing the intro to “Free Bird” for the band.
