Modelling of power electronic converters and converter fed electric drives is a growing field. There are several software packages available for this purpose. This field is only around two and a half decades old and has become a course of study and research in Universities/Institutions and also a tool for designing new power elec-tronic converters and converter fed drive topologies in industries and research and development organizations. This book provides models for single, multi-triangle carrier, selective harmonic elimination (SHE) and space vector (SV) pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques for three-phase two-level, multilevel and modular multilevel converters (MMC), various boost control techniques for Z-source (ZS), quasi Z-source (QZS), switched inductor (SL), active switched capacitor (ASC) and diode assisted extended boost (DAEB) inverters. In addition, models for six-step inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), brushless DC motor (BLDCM) and induction motor (IM) drives, vector-controlled PMSM and IM drives, space vector PWM (SVPWM) inverter fed direct torque controlled (DTC) IM drives, fuzzy logic controlled (FLC) converter fed PMSM and IM drives are presented.
As mentioned, modelling of power electronic converters and converter fed electric drives is a growing field with great emphasis given in the university course curriculum, industries and research and development organizations. Now it has become a common industrial practice to model power electronic converters and converter fed electric drives, study the model response for machine speed, torque and current and make relevant design changes before hardware implementation.
