Nel 1948 John Forbes Nash jr. si trovava a Princeton con la più ambita delle borse di studio; ma non era della razza classica degli studenti che da generazioni hanno l'università nel sangue e nei modi. Le sue idee non passarono inosservate e un rappresentante del Dipartimento della Difesa si presenta a lui per proporgli di collaborare. Ma la sua vita sarà segnata anche dalla malattia mentale.
