Jean-Baptiste Doulcet (piano)
Orchestre de Paris - Philharmonie
Klaus Mäkelä (conductor)
Few orchestras know Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique better than the Orchestre de Paris - Philharmonie, which performed the work at its very first concert in 1967 and has done so at every significant milestone in its history ever since. Here France’s most illustrious orchestra visits the Proms with its renowned Chief Conductor Klaus Mäkelä for a mouth-watering programme that indulges all the beauty, delicacy and emotion of French music while marking another of the most thrilling scores ever to have come out of Paris: Stravinsky’s tuneful and mischievous puppet-show ballet, Petrushka.
Presented by Petroc Trelawny, live from the Royal Albert Hall, London.
First broadcast: 3 September 2024
