So, let's list the painful stuff found in just ep #1. This of course can get much worse as the show unfolds, but you have to start somewhere. -Batman with LONG pointy ears. The guy would never been caught wearing a hood designed that way. These give a good grab in a close combat situation. Of course, I'll retrace that one if Wayne refines his design along the way. -Alfred is fat. Excuse me? This gentleman's gentleman was a SAS and a spy before turning to butlering. Hence his always fit appreance in previous incarnations. -Bruce calls Alfred "Pennyworth". Hello? The man *raised* him. Alfred is one of the very few affective attachmements Bruce has, why remove that? To make him less likeable, because "male hero=bad"? -Harvey Dent is a political animal. That's something Harv' wouldn't do, at the expense of his prosecutor's job. The man always was a staunch partisan of the law. Political Harvey is a cinema thing. They also made him a "toxic white male", arrogant and condescending towards women. Harvey was a devout husband, as well shown in the Long Halloween. -The Iceberg lounge is a *smuggler's boat with a cannon*? Cobblepot wouldn't have it. the Lounge is his "honorable" front. Also, ships can sink. -Cobblepot as a Burly tall female? Guy's, you've fallen off the woke tree and hit every branch on the way down. Being a small, round and ridiculous looking man was seminal to the genesis of the Penguin. His entire persona is built on him being ridiculed by his peers, who looked down on him, literally. It's quite ridiculous too: there never has been any shortage of strong female characters in Batman, many of them running rings around Bats for years. Talia Al Ghul, Lady Shiva, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, the list goes on. -Barbara Gordon is now both afro-american and a lawyer. Wrong again... the Gordon's are of Irish descent, hence the red hair that runs in the family. Also Babs being a lawyer and not starting *first* as Batgirl in her teens kills her chances to become a librarian, get shot by the Joker and become Oracle. So, story-breaking choices, here. All of it is of course consistent with the "woke" trend. If one wants to clutch at straws and give a chance to this more than potential trainwreck of a show, just try to convince yourself that this is one more alternate reality thing, an Elseworlds-like version of Batman |
Thank you for an honest and solid review. Saved me from wasting a ton of downloading time! Again - thank you. |
Much appreciated. I was concerned it was going to be like this and after reading your review its a pass. Thanks for the upload as I appreciate all uploaders time and effort. |
Most of these are style notes. And you shouldn't be so quick to condemn adaptation changes to characters. There were only two Robins in B:TAS and neither of them were zombies. Some changes to the source material are good things - and the ones in B:TAS were made by the principal here. |
I also can understand the need to change things up in a series that seemingly gets forced into a reboot once a year. The Penguin was from the panderverse. True, but Alfred retired so he can eat all the meals Bruce skips. lol Some changes can land hard at first but grow on you later, as The Batman cartoon proved. |
exactly what i came here to say.... The DEI multiverse strikes again Cant wait for the next WonderWoMAN from the island Tranyscira |
I love this because it reminds me how little of Batman's history some have been privy to. Batman has had much longer bat ears. Look up "Batman Kelley Jones". Alfred's first appearance was portly, they changed it after a thin actor played him in the 40s. New series, new universe, new rules. Happens every time. |
Just had to see the word "woke" used to know your review/opinion wasn't worth taking seriously. |
I disagree with the batsuit. There's been a lot of iteration of the outfit that I don't really care if it has pointed ears. The rest though, I agree, to the point that I'm not going to bother watching. Thanks for the review. |
Harley Quinn showed how to do a really great show that catered some to everyone and was extremely funny. It could still be serious when it needed to. Jim Gordon from HQ is the best ever. |
> -Batman with LONG pointy ears. yeah, it's not like Batman in the comics has had long pointy ears... oh wait... look at Kelley Jones artwork, the ears are HUGE!!! it's all about style over thinking |
I have seen The Batman make some strange changes in its cartoon years ago and somehow, even hating the way some of them look, the writing and acting was not bad and people were trying their best. The same applies here. Some of the changes will be hard to swallow at first but the animation and writing wasn't bad. Aesthetics aside it felt like an episode of a good cartoon from the past. It is trying too hard to check boxes, this is true, but as they check them they at least provide a solid performance with a decent story effort. Id give it a 7/10 overall. Had they not made some bad choices on the looks of Penguin it could be a 8.5/10 for EP 1. I mean her name is Oswalda? Thats almost a sign to me from the staff that they didn't want to do this but were forced too. If she had her own name it wouldn't be so easy to see its a virtue signaling trope. I might have even liked the switch from short to tall , male to female as they kept the shape of the face the same. But Oswalda is a clear forced name from the panderverse. If you can push that anger aside it shows itself to have potential as a series. |
This is from Bruce Timm (creator of the original B:TAS). Other than the Killing Joke adaptation, he is without sin. |

Maxed out on ep10, here's the rating: Rating: 8.8/10 with 251 votes |
I wish Christina Ricci was The Flash. Literally. I'd hit Pause. |
this looks like a continuation of the famous and beloved 90s animated DC version, so I give it a try and GOD help them if they use it as an agenda vehicle, I will pray daily so san andreas fault awakens and wipes hollywood from face of Earth |
This isn’t a continuation; it introduces different character versions and exists independently. It’s not part of the DCAU or Batman: The Animated Series. |
The animation is vaguely similar, but it seems that's where the similarities end unfortunately. Still going to withhold further judgement until I see it myself. |
"... and GOD help them if they use it as an agenda vehicle" What a fragile human being. |
Sadly OP doesn't know Batman very well. Alfred started off fat; he slimmed down later. He did NOT raise Wayne; he showed up at Wayne's door when Batman and Robin were already a thing. https://64.media.tumblr.com/4faed48cb4d86dee8eddb326e8b4295b/tumblr_mf7j69UVt21r7l3v7o1_500.jpg |
True, absolutely true, that was the first origin story for Alfred. Later on though, this was retconned. ,probably made for two reasons: one, Bruce someone who'd shield him from prying eyes as he grew up and trained. Two, there had to be someone who'd give him emotional support. That fortified the lore. |
If it only was about the animation... a good story and the lore that comes with it are like a finely tuned clock. If you're going to change something, you need to keep it all consistent. Messing with the wrong thing will break the suspension of disbelief and break the growth of important characters. It's like they throw everything to the dogs and go with whatever the PanderBall will spit out when you shake it. You can tweak things a round a bit, but remember: ripples, not waves. Or write something entirely original. Writing is a challenge and requires more than just rehashing pre-existing material. The few last attempts at making feature-length Batman animated stuff have been less than successful, and quite lazy. Hush, I'm looking at you... and Batman by Gaslight was an infamy. |
Don´t comply to those who tell you to brush off tectonic changes to characters. Gordon changes if he is a victim of racism instead of a straight irish cop who fights corruption and racist cops. Same as Barbara. Same as Cobblepot ad nauseam. Don´t shut up, don´t comply with DEI corrupted products. |
Couldn't get through E01... slow, boring, and just didn't like the way it was drawn. I thought DC was doing a full reboot of everything? This seems to be the same as everything else I see by them. |
This is a great show. The storyline is pretty solid. It is not the first time in a batman show that the storyline has been twisted. That is what I love about the batman shows. Someone is just mad that the characters have been changed. Jim Gordon will always be jim |
@ Jim Rook. Thanks very much. Your review saved me around 4-5 hours of time. Alfred being fat i can take. Oswalda Barbara Gordon race swapped to hit DEI quota. FFS enough of this gender and race swapping Hollwood has no and respect for original material anymore. |
You're welcome, mate. And the fact that characters only stupid decisions doesn't help. A Montoya/Quinzel romance ? Renee is a good cop. Bullock would not stand for setting an arsonist free. Flass got race-swapped and inserted in the wrong time period. He was from Gordon's rookie time at GCPD and was sacked back then. |
