Let the dude in. What he did ON THE FIELD shouldn't matter what he did off of it. Mickey Mantle was a womanizer and a drunk and often played games hungover, yet he's in the Hall of Fame. I can understand players like Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens and Mark McGwire being permanently banned because using steroids affected their playing. Gambling didn't affect Pete Rose's actions on the field or in the dugout. He is guilty of betting on baseball as the manager of the Reds. Some decisions he made in the lineup were meant to favor him on his betting. I understand that. But shouldn't the Hall of Fame accept players for what they did ON THE FIELD? Betting on baseball as a manager has nothing to do with his record 4,256 hits which will never be broken. He's been out there promoting baseball ever since his lifetime ban. Let the dude in. |
