Description
This torrent gathers the 22 SF movies that that Neal deGrasse Tyson reviews in a video he posted to youtube around April 10, 2024 titled "Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Sci-Fi Movie Tier List".

All the movies have English subtitles. With the exception of two movies from the 1950s, they are all 1920x<something> resolution. They average 2.2GB. Every movie folder contains a file "IMDB" (with no extention) which is a Windows shortcut to the movie's IMDB page.

The Dr. Tyson video is in this folder:

000 Watch Neil deGrasse Tyson’s reviews of his Favorite Science Fiction movies

If you want to watch the video on Youtube, there's a Windows shortcut in that folder.

Dr. Tyson reviews his favorite SF movies, generally evaluating them for the accuracy of the science, esp. the physics they display. I found his comments interesting, e.g. in Interstellar, Sandra Bullock's bangs always point down even when "gravity" is from another direction. LOL

He ranks the videos as he goes, with "S" as the highest category. To get the movies to sort alphabetically, I replaced "S" with "0" (zero).

If you want to go directly to his comments about a specific movie, these are the times in the youtube video:

0:00 - Introduction
0:09 - The Black Hole
0:58 - The Matrix
2:27 - The Martian
4:09 - The Blob
5:55 - Contact
6:48 - Interstellar
9:19 - Gravity
12:54 - Back to the Future
14:39 - A Quiet Earth
16:48 - Arrival
19:44 - The Europa Report
21:10 - Armageddon
22:20 - Close Encounters of The Third Kind
24:54 - Deep Impact
26:02 - The Day the Earth Stood Still
26:55 - Independence Day
28:58 - The Terminator
32:03 - 2001: A Space Odyssey
33:25 - Closing Notes

They are mostly familiar movies. The ones that are new to me:

  Europa Report (2013)

  Deep Impact (1998)

  The Black Hole (1979)

From Dr. Tyson's comments and from clicking through them quickly, IMO they look watch worthy. Even the worst-rated "The Black Hole" seems campy cool -- but that might be just me.

I decided not to put the bitrate, etc into the folder names because it makes the titles hard to read and no one indicated that they liked it when I put it in previously. Here are the titles with the bitrate etc. if you care, where:

[H264 2.50m 1920x872 02;28;52 2.8GB]

means the codec is H264, the bitrate is 2.50 million, the resolution is 1920x872, the duraction is 2 hours, 28 minutes and 52 seconds; and the video file is 2.8 GB.

Nearly all of the movies are from RARBG because I already had most of them from the days when RARBG.to was my go-to site. I tried to note the exceptions by going through the movies manually and appending the (non-RARBG) release groups to the folder name. The original name of all of the movies is preserved in the video name.

As always, HUGE THANKS to the angels who rip the movies! 🙏😍👍

- Enjoy!
