The series is set in a dystopian future in which Britain is under the grip of the
Home Office's Department of Public Control (PCD), a tyrannically oppressive
bureaucracy riding roughshod over the population's civil liberties.
Edward Woodward plays Jim Kyle, a journalist on the last independent newspaper
called The Star, who turns renegade and begins to fight the PCD covertly.
The officials of the PCD, in turn, try to provide proof of Kyle's subversive
activities.

Authoritarians seem to be popping up all over the place - or trying to. We can but hope that the Orange Blob across The Pond goes to jail rather than back to the White House. . Right.  | These are the old time-coded archive rips that have been doing the trading circuit rounds since the (actual) 1990s, which the added indecency of having been converted to NTSC somewhere along the way. This show has been out on DVD since 2017, and rips of those have been floating around ever since. Interested parties are much better off seeking those out. |
