Saw this in the theater. Was OK, it felt like ALOT of his life was left out or glossed over. Needed much more music and how he put music together. Not really a spoiler but the best part of the movie was how the Exodus song/album came to be. The end was rushed and the rest of his life till death was basically some on screen words before the credits rolled. IDK, left wanting much more and bit disappointed. |
Im not a reggae fan at all but he was a huge influance on music . For that reason ill watch this .. Thanx |
Some reviews say its good some bad, the commonality being the ending was rushed with critical aspects of his life and death hurried through. Undecided if I should sit this one out. |
Fun fact: Bob Marley did drugs Not a lot of people know that |
Too difficult to put his hair in dreads, and he can't sing for |
But on the bright side, Statham is not a glorified homophobic woman beating rapist. |
You're 100% right 5547 (as far as we know); I try and tread the -- often very difficult -- line of ignoring unproven/unconvicted allegations of my old heroes, whilst still engaging with their work. If I got rid of everything I have by some alleged scumbag, I'd have very few books, movies, or music left |
hard to believe family members were so closely involved in this largely imagined image of marley. when you start including things that apparently never happened--even seemingly small events like bob going to a clash concert--it's a very slippery slope. and it's worth noting that the greatest album of the 20th century (time magazine quoted in the movie) was inspired by a hollywood movie about the establishment of the jewish state of israel. just glad they didn't too deemphasize all the superficiality and hypocrisy in his life, although his philandering was played down to innuendo only. how he fooled himself into believing he was humble, insightful and so idealistic should be the takeaway for all viewers so as to not fall into that trap...the music, though, is undeniably sublime. |
Every biopic has imagined events and is Hollywooded up. That's just how it goes. |
There are eyewitness accounts of him attending the Clash concert and other punk concerts that predate this movie. Unless of course you were there or are a friend of the family then maybe you have firsthand knowledge that us plebs don't, in which case you can address those when the world sees fit to film your biography. |
Thanks for that WEARE138, I read one of those accounts recently... Beddard-Smith, A. (2024, Feb. 16). Bob Marley’s penchant for punk: Andrea Beddard-Smith recalls standing behind the reggae legend at a Clash gig. The Guardian. https://www[dot]theguardian[dot]com/music/2024/feb/16/bob-marley-penchant-for-punk |
Eh? the Clash were an inspiration for one of his songs. |
I have never heard that he went to see The Clash. I know that Don Let's was his dealer, and he directed The Clash On Broadway documentary. Later to form BAD with Mick Jones. So it is possible.... |
Should have call this movie The Man Who Knew Too Much since Bob was allegedly murdered by the CIA |
Bob died of cancer, full stop! I knew the real wailers band and had opportunity to travel with them as a roadie. Not the karaoke wailers but the wailers that actually backed Bob. All are dead now except the I-Threes. Family man was last of the Real "Wailers" Band |
tHxs GalaxyRG , Good movie, enlighten me of a few things that Bob was going threw , also i would have like to have heard more music in this movie . You really had to listen as the broken English and the Rastafarian accent was hard to understand at times ,only draw back was it could have done with some English subtitles....lol Worth the watch. |
> a few things that Bob was going threw "Broken English", says the pot to the kettle. |
Whatever, Bob Marley made reggae 'accessible' to billions of folks around this planet |
Fun fact: Marley's music went waaay downhill once he became a solo act (after the departures of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer). This was not a coincidence. |
his 'one love' was indeed escaping reality through intoxication; but even according to the meaning of the directors of the film, he only believed in one love as long as it fit with his world view...a very childish, superficial and ultimately impossible way to accomplish anything meaningful. kind of like what hollywood does. |
"The Wailers will be there, the Damned, the Jam, the Clash – Maytals will be there, Dr. Feelgood too". |
