The Anomaly by Bob Blink EPUB
Natalie would never have believed how much trouble an extra chromosome or two could be. She had been fascinated with DNA since the day she had learned about the marvelous structure in Middle School. Something so small being able to control one's very appearance just seemed almost magical. When she learned her very own DNA could be analyzed to determine where her ancestors were from, and even to identify people to whom she might be related, she had immediately wanted to have the test performed.
It wasn't until years later when her boyfriend Eric gave her a surprise gift on her birthday that she was actually able to submit her DNA for testing. She'd been hardly able to wait for the results, but for some reason the company was very late on reporting the analysis that she was dying to see.
Then, two men pretending to be from the company that had collected her sample for testing, showed up at her door and attempted to kidnap her. Simple lucky timing saved her from being hauled off, but from words that had been exchanged there was little doubt the attempted abduction was somehow related to what had been found in her DNA.
At this point, things started to go downhill rapidly. The anomaly found in her DNA was something that even the United States government was interested in, and in an attempt to force her to surrender to the authorities, she and Eric were framed for several serious crimes that they hadn't committed.
But there was more, and it wasn't something the government controlled. She was changing. She was developing abilities that were unheard of which almost certainly had to be related to the strange chromosome pattern that she now realized she carried.
Before Natalie and Eric could prove their innocence of the crimes they had been accused of, Natalie found herself locked away in a lab controlled by the US Army, the subject of daily testing as the scientists tried to unravel her new abilities, and trigger the appearance of others.
Knowing, or at least strongly suspecting, that she wouldn't ever be free to live her old life, Natalie sought a means of escape. The freedom she sought would have been out of reach had it not been for the unheard of abilities she had developed while held prisoner. But escaping the labs did not guarantee her old life, and she was going to have to fight even to stay liberated.
