I watched this with my daughters last night and rather enjoyed it. |
Just finished watching this on Netflix and have come back to grab a copy for my permanent collection. A great twist on the story with some great acting by Millie Bobby Brown and they couldn't have picked a better actress to voice the dragon than Shohreh Aghdashloo from The Expanse. The dragon is absolutely breathtaking. |
I was going to skip this movie until I read this comment, Shohreh as a dragon? I'm in! |
The wife had to tell me who Millie Bobby Brown was. I didn't recognise her without a bleeding nose. |
It's fine. I liked it. It plays a bit off the Final Girl trope, later half of slasher movies and subverting generic fairy tale tropes (like how the stepmother character is actually the good one this time). It doesn't always do it gracefully, but it's still a fun watch overall if you're not out to hate the movie just for it having a female lead. Though to be frank. I personally dislike Bobby Brown, but still enjoyed this one. The only real downside is the short, unsatisfying ending. It just happens in like 5 minutes and the movie ends. |
I agree this, especially the too quick, and kind of sloppy, ending. I'm also not a fan of Millie, but she was fine in this. And I love to see females kicking : instead of portrayed as near helpless/weak. PS: The Princess (2022) with Joey King is also along these lines, with a lot of fun action sequences. |
So this was fun. It's nothing great, but it had some refreshing, and empowering, new twists on old tropes. I'm not much of a Millie fan, but she was fine in this. 7/10: good popcorn movie. |
Surprisingly not terrible. Other than the first ~20 minutes, it was non-stop action. No propaganda either. Solid Grimm-esque fairy tale. I'd download the HDR version if you can play it. Lots of super creepy cave scenes with nicely done lighting. |
cool ill give it a go... i havent seen anything UL that I wanna see lately, so. |
Not a Millie fan and have low expectations for this one... but can't pass judgment until watched. Sometimes you get a pleasant surprise. |
Well, it was better than expected... not great but still more enjoyable than thought. Though, woulda been better with someone else... Ortega, Zegler, Taylor-Joy... Danny Devito... anyone else. |
There were parts that didn't make sense. Like the map telling her where to go. If the girls that made it there died then who came back to update the map??? LOL! |
Fairy tale movies are not expected to be rooted in reality. Re the map: some made it further than others & they came back to draw the map for others. Others kept coming back to that spot (twisted around) & drew the map for their own reference. And the way up & out was clear even if they never made it all the way. |
