Thank you so much, amazing series . is this from the recent remastered release? |
I suspect negative comments come from reviewing the first episodes, The Gathering is not remastered, and the first episode has its quality issues... if you want to check out the REMASTERED quality of this release please start with episode 2 or above, you will be pleasently surprised. |
I'm going to have to revise my rating as I've been watching this for a few weeks. AMAZING!!! (imho) BEST video I've even seen of this show. By magnitudes! It brings a whole new life to the show. I never realized the mosaic on Kosh's suit, or the intricacy of the, "Eye," that Londo had re-acquired. It's like watching it again. I HIGHTLY recommend this to any B5 fan. Video is 10. I'd still rate the audio at 9 because of the range (not the uploader's fault) where it can go from a whisper that you really can't hear to ear-splitting explosions (hey, I have to watch this in bed with my wife trying to fall asleep ;) ). I never thought that B5 could look this good. Everyone needs to check this out. |
Review of the blu ray release here https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Babylon-5-The-Complete-Series-Blu-ray/342014/ https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/babylon-5-the-complete-series-blu-ray-review.12886/ This includes comparative screenshots of the 576i DVD release. https://www.reddit.com/r/babylon5/comments/18b5p9e/babylon_5_bluray_vs_itunes_vs_dvd_screenshots/ |
As a long term Babylon 5 fan I was thrilled at finally seeing a 'Bluray version' of this so I grabbed every season, huge download. BUT... It's NOT Bluray standard - It appears to be a low quality 480p version upscaled and put on Bluray. It's not Remastered or restored - It's blocky and grainy in places and lacks vibrance. It's the wrong format, Babylon 5 was shot in widescreen so should be in 16:9 format. This is 4:3 so each side of the frame has been clipped so you aren't seeing a big chunk of the frame The movies are missing except The Gathering. I have a previous 720p DVD version in 1280x720 (16:9) and the frame clipping is very obvious when one does a comparison with this version. So...I've binned this entire download and have decided instead to upscale the 720p version I already have to 1080p with subtitles (ASS) that actually play on my TV. Results so far are promising, better than this release, no clipping AND small file sizes of about 500 Mb each. Don't bother with this unless you're desperate!! Thanks to uploader, not his fault, it's a con on bluray :( |
Babylon 5 was shot in "Open Format," not 16:9. When you see the widescreen version it means that the top and bottom were cropped. JMS said that they shot it with the ability to be viewed in 16:9 but if you want all the image, all the information, then you need it like this. You are completely wrong about clipping |
Hi - uploader here. I have the DVD version of these too and have to disagree that they are in any way better than this, even from the original source DVD they are a murky blurry mess compared to this which is "soft" for a blu-ray and undeniably quite grainy but has significantly better detail levels than the DVD. |
While both the 16:9 and 4:3 crop some of the film, 4:3 was the original airing and only aspect that matches the CGI. Also the video is remastered, the only upscale is of the CGI because no one has remade it ALL yet. It is much better than previous formats, enjoy. |
