Axis Point was a rock band formed by former Family guitarist Charlie Whitney in 1979. They were signed to the Record label RCA and released two albums in a twelve month period. The line-up of the band was an eclectic mix of famed musicians of that time.
Whitney's line-up of Axis Point included , guitarist Charlie Whitney, guitarist and vocalist Bobby Tench of The Jeff Beck Group and Streetwalkers, keyboardist Eddie Hardin, bassist John Gustafson, vocalist Charles McCracken, drummers Les Binks from Judas Priest and Rob Townsend of Family and Medicine Head also Recording engineer Louie Austin who is credited with vocals. They recorded Axis Point, which was released by RCA in 1979 entitled Whitney, Harden McCracken and Townsend's Axis Point. The songwriting on this album is split between Harden and Whitney with McCraken co-writing "Woman of the world" and "Fire it up". On their second album Boast of the Town (1980), the credits are split between Whitney and McCracken who collaborate on most of the songs. Bobby Tench moved on in in 1980 to join Humble Pie and the band dissolved during the same year
