Ai upscaled from a 1080p bluray source, then increased framerate to 60fps via TensorRT Rife v4.12v2.
(Testing new rife model 4.12v2)
English audio and Multilingual subtitles included.

TensorRT RIFE motion interpolation is a combination of TensorRT and RIFE that enables real-time video frame interpolation with high quality. It is a TensorRT plugin for Vapoursynth, a video processing framework, that can be used for both transcoding and real-time playback modes. The interpolation quality, performance, and memory usage are determined by the AI model used. Model 4.6 provides higher quality but is slower than model 4.4, which requires less memory.

The frame rate of a film is the number of still images that are displayed per second to create the illusion of motion. The higher the frame rate, the smoother the playback, and the more realistic the motion appears. Here are some differences between 24, 30, 48, 60FPS in movies:

24 FPS: This is the standard frame rate for movies. It is good for creating a cinematic experience and is not suitable for gaming. However, it can appear choppy during fast-paced action scenes.

30 FPS: This frame rate is commonly used in television broadcasts and is suitable for creating a smooth and natural-looking video.

48 FPS: This frame rate is used in some movies to create a more immersive and realistic experience. It provides smoother playback and is ideal for action-packed scenes.

60 FPS: This is the standard frame rate for video playback and has been the standard for more than 30 years. It provides a smooth and comfortable viewing experience.

We are no longer bound by the technological restrictions created by old, grainy, low frequency, and low frame rate cameras and TV's.

Early silent films had frame rates from 14 – 26 frames per second, which was enough to provide a sense of motion, but the motion was often jerky or uneven. You can imagine how film cranked by hand when photographed, and then cranked by hand again when projected, would make it nearly impossible to portray true-to-life motion.
Late in this period, motion picture cameras and projectors developed mechanized cranks, which allowed for constant speeds of recording and projection. Even so, individual scenes were oftentimes filmed and projected at varying frame rates due to filmmakers favoring different speeds for different scenes (usually between 18 and 23 fps). Often film reels were delivered with instructions as to how fast or slow each scene should be shown. Additionally, exhibitors and projectionists favored certain frame rates as well, creating further inconsistency. 24 fps was an economical and technical decision.

What changed everything was sound synchronization. Synchronizing sound with film was attempted as early as 1900, but the technology was too unreliable for major motion pictures. By the late 20s, it became possible to sync sound using a phonograph or similar device, interlocked mechanically with a projector. The first "talkie", a film with recorded dialogue, used this method, set at 24 fps. It was 1927s The Jazz Singer.
Eventually, sound was synced to film by actually printing an optical track on the filmstrip alongside the image. This practice linked frame rate to the limitations of audio technology of the time. Given that film is an expensive medium, it was in Hollywood’s best interest to consume as little film as possible during a production. Although silent films ran at an average of 16 fps, it wasn’t possible to produce a quality soundtrack at that frame rate. Eventually, the studios decided on 24 fps because it was the SLOWEST frame rate possible for producing intelligible sound, which means the decision was not an aesthetic decision, but a technical and economical decision.

avatarHello, friend. It's a pity you feel this way about 24p (personally I prefer 23.978p). I found the upscale to be quite good, except for the 60p, which looks quite unnatural to my eyes, not only for the soap opera effect but also for the appearance of the image looking accelerated. I guess the problem is because it's an artificial alteration of the original frame rate, I don't know. Anyway, it would be fantastic if you would release both kinds, but of course it's your choice. I only hope that someday you change your mind. Cheers.

avatarHello, Guest-7689. When I say 24p, I'm rounding it up. It's a 0.022fps difference, imperceptible. Thank you for the constructive review. And thank you for using subjective statements. Unfortunately, I can't afford to release two copies of each movie. There's more than enough 24p content out there, IMO.

avatarHi everyone. Personally am not a fan of 60fps movies(only when framerate artificially increased), as for upscaling, I don't really mind and occasionally use FSR myself. But I just don't get why y'all are hating on this guy. Clearly many people prefer 60fps movies and chesley96 here is is providing just that. 24fps movies are literally everywhere(almost every encode out there), but y'all still have to come here and gang up on this guy. Don't like 60fps? I mean...it's clearly mentioned in the title, so maybe just get another encode and stop leaving negative comments on a release that you are not even planning to download, let alone watch. Also if y'all think 60fps looks bad, clearly you haven't seen some of the 144fps content available out there, cuz that sh*t will make you faint if 60fps makes you feel this way:_:-). chesley96 just ignore these haters, know that there are many who appreciate what you do

avatarDirty Harry at 60 fps had major soap opera effect and spoiled it.
Hopefully Planet of the Apes at 60 fps is not that bad.

Best to leave these old classics at the fps they were filmed in.

avatarThat's your opinion. Not mine. You call it Soap opera effect. I call it realistic. If you want choppy blurry 24fps, then look elsewhere or upscale them yourself. I don't do 24fps as I don't watch ANYTHING with choppy motion. I'm only here for likeminded individuals that prefer a more natural, smooth motion.

avatarThere is nothing natural about this motion at 60 at all. You're using 24 frame source files, so all you're doing is causing weird artefacts in fast-paced scenes. Slow it down and check for yourself. It's called the 'Soap Opera Effect'.

avatarHave you not gone through your releases at one frame at a time to see what your software does to the objects on screen? It morphs them into weird distorted shapes. Peoples faces squish and expand, hands elongate, fingers elongate, objects stretch. The human eye catches this weirdness and your brain notices. Ruined.

avatarThere's obviously a lot of you that don't like motion interpolation, but there is also a lot that do. Those are the ones I'm here for. I'm passionate about making them better, and to me, smooth is better. Sorry it's not to your liking.

avatarThen why did you do Up In Smoke at 24p then @Chesley96 ?

avatar@Guest-3111 I was being generous to a commentor that asked for a 24fps release, nicely. That is, until enough derogatory comments, consisting of trolling over motion interpolation, made me decide not to. I'm doing this because I enjoy doing it, not to take flak from detractors. Definitely not to do their bidding.

avatarYou have NOT been trolled at all @Chelsey96 Just because people have pointed out the 'TRUIE' flaws in using 24 frame source files being transcoded to 60 frames - that don't = trollin' You're just being stubborn for no reason of your own because even though time and time again people have been polite and said not to take offence, you clearly have taken offence.

avatarYour motion interpolation is garbage and so is the end result. You refuse to admit that there's motion artifacts from this interpolation.

avatarDid you not see it says 60fps in the title? It doesn't suffer, it flourishes, beautiful smooth motion, with the occasional artifact. If it wasn't for people like you giving Peter Jackson flak, he would have changed the game. He obviously knows it's more natural at a higher framerate, and he's a director. meh.. lol

avatarThank you for your effort. But unfortunately, the 60fps is a bad move. The 2160p is great, but the frame rate choice ruins it.

avatarI do plan on incorporating HDR10+ and DV in the future. As of yet, I haven't found a reliable method of doing so. But I doubt that it will be the case for long.

avatarAll I see is a stubborn individual who thinks they're always right and if anyone dare criticize or question their methods or what they do, then they're automatically a troll. Time and time again I have seen people ask politely for 24Hz* or state that they gave 60Hz a go but did not like the soap opera effect motion and to please stick with the source framerate. I'm not trolling here, I am making an observation and asking a serious question - why would this or the others be trolling?

avatarIt's not about what's right. This is a purely subjective matter. Do you people not understand the words I'm typing? The trolling at hand is certain people against motion interpolation that have no intention of downloading, only here to talk shit. I do it the way I want because I prefer motion interpolation over 24fps.

avatarIs there a way to not lose so much grain detail in these upscales? It makes the faces looks so unrealistic.

by Dreamstate
    on 2024-01-07 00:29:23
avatarThat's just another reason not to do it. You're removing detail from characters faces. Then distorting their faces during fast movements with this frame doubling/animating. Software simply can't animate like a human. It ruins the objects it animates. Period. You have no idea what you're doing.

avatar@Dreamstate Why are you so perturbed? You're obviously offended by what I do. You've made it clear you don't like my encodes, and have no intention of watching them, so GTFO, and troll someone else.
