In Australia the Conservative Right Wing government introduced an automated data-matching system in 2016. The system became know as the "Robodebt scheme". Four years later that same government announced that it would scrap the debt recovery scheme, with 470,000 wrongly-issued debts to be repaid in full. A class-action lawsuit was launched but the Australian government agreed to settle it before it could go to trial. The next year the Federal Court approved a A$1.872 billion settlement. |
