Release notes
Note: As was the style at the time in Italy, this movie was filmed with no on set audio and all audio was dubbed in post. The actors are speaking English on screen and as such the English dub is the best experience. However, as this is an Italian production the was first released in Italy in Italian well before anywhere else, the Italian audio is considered to be the original and has been ordered first. The subtitle tracks are denoted as English Audio and Italian Audio in the track title to differentiate which audio track they belong with.
Source 1: USA UHD (Video, English Audio, Subs): Show
Source 2: USA Blu-ray (Italian Audio, Commentary): Show
Source 3: NTSC DVD (Named Chapters)
Release Notes:
Video demuxed with MakeMKV to keep Dolby Vision. For the English audio I ended up going with the UHD, there are some clipped samples but not many and both the USA and GBR blu-rays have a hard cut off in the waveform like they were clipped and someone adjusted the levels after the fact. Despite the much higher amplitude on the UHD waveform the perceptual loudness level is about identical with the USA audio, sounds slightly better, and has more dynamic range used. For the Italian audio the audio from the USA blu-ray was chosen. The UHD audio has 2 scenes that have had some sort of filtering applied and while one sounded a bit better perceptually the other sounds noticeably worse. Also, while the frequencies roll off about the same on all mixes the UHD audio has a hard cut off at 17 kHz for some reason. I don't know what the hell Severin's audio person is doing. Both stereo mixes were confirmed matrix stereo on my 5.1 system with Pro Logic decoder enabled. Commentary from the USA blu-ray synced and included. Attempted to sync the 5.1 mix of the Italian audio from the ITA blu-ray but sadly it must be missing some footage or something because it loses sync about halfway through. Subs OCR'd and SDH removed from the subs for the English dub for full option. The translation for the Italian dub was identical between the UHD and USA blu-rays and the GBR differed very slightly but 80% of lines were identical and no meaning was changed so the UHD subs were chosen. Named chapters from the NTSC DVD synced to I or P frames.
