Barbara Stanwyck is a newspaper write in danger of losing her job, so she writes a story that's purportedly a guy "John Doe" that's so down on his luck, he is going to jump off a specific building on Christmas Eve. The story is very popular, so now they have to find someone to play the part of John Doe. A bunch of bums turn up to interview for the job. They pick out Gary Cooper:



His buddy and fellow bub is Grampa McCoy (Walter Brennan).



John Doe (with Stanwyck writing the script) calls for neighbors to help each other. All across the country, ordinary people respond:



But it turns out that the rich guy bankrolling the movement has fascist leanings:



I don't want to give away the ending, which happens on Christmas Eve I hope you're intrigued.

This is a very cute Christmas movie. You'll like it.

The age 8-ish kid builds himself a cardboard fort by the railroad tracks. He sees saints and speaks with them:





As a religious kid, when a bale of money flattens his fort, he naturally thinks it's a Gift from God. (It isn't.) He gives some to the Mormon missionaries who live down the street, stuffing it through their mail slot:




It turns out, the money was tossed off the train by robbers - and now they come after it. No one gets hurt.

Remember the coach's daughter in the TV show Friday Night Lights? That was Aimee Teegarden, the star of this movie.



She is an orphan, her Mom dead, never knew her father. She works for an organization that helps people adopt kids. She sends her DNA to one of those companies, and they identify her father! She goes to meet the family. It's the nicest family ever, gearing up for a big family Christmas. This is a very warm, happy movie.

It may be surpassed by one of this year's Hallmark movies, A Biltmore Christmas, which had an IMDB rating of 8.4, since dropping to 8.0 -- but a couple years ago, I believe this was the highest-rated Hallmark movie ever.

Can you think of a movie that has time travel, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and a train? This is another one. Lea Thompson looks amazing, 36 years later.



Lyndsy Fonseca had to listen to her Dad's drama about how he met her mother, late in the series.

Christopher Lloyd is the train conductor who sells her the magic ticket that takes her 10 years into the past.



Ms. Fonseca was regretting a decision she made 10 years ago, and the magic ticket lets her go back to that time to make a better decision. I'm not a huge Hallmark fan but I have watched this movie 3 times.

This is a dark movie. It's a bad sign when the reindeer are slaughtered;

This is a wonderful Christmas movie; it really embodies the spirit of Christmas. Barbara Stanwyck is apprehended stealing jewelry. Fred MacMurray is the prosecuting attorney. She is being held over for trial until after Christmas. Being a good guy, Fred decides to take her to see his family, in Pennsylvania if memory servers. His family is wonderful. She is genuinely moved by their treatment of her.

This movie is provided in Danish and also dubbed in English.

Arguably this isn't a Christmas movie. I argue it is. Here, for example, is Santa with elves:



The movie is about how Jack Frost becomes of the the 5 guardians, along with Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the guy who puts sleep in your eye at night and the Easter Bunny. Maybe this is the ~Christmas movie to watch when you're sick of Christmas movies. Very suitable for kids, right up there with Klause and Arthur Christmas in my opinion.

GENERAL COMMENTS ABOUT THE COLLECTION (copy-paste from Part 1):

Re exploring these torrents:

Every movie folder has a file named "IMDB". It's actual name is "IMDB.url". If you are on Windows, then double-clicking that file will bring you to the movie's IMDB page. I don't know what it does on other operating systems.

If you like to have subtitles, "EngSubs" means the movie has English subtitles, "Multisub" means it has English (probably) and a number of other languages. I tried hard to find subtitles, using VLC's View -> VLSub feature. If I didn't find subtitles, they might be available by some other means.

If you are on Windows, then I strongly recommend that you install Voidtool's Everything search utility.

It will let you instantly find videos when you search for them. (I have no affiliation with Voidtools other than thanking the Deity in the Sky every day for the amazing Everything utility.)

All of the videos have 3 genres and 3 actors after their name and IMDB rating.

Actors are identified by their name with the space removed, e.g. "Barbara Stanwyck" is written as BarbaraStanwyck. This convention avoids false positive when you search for an actor's name, e.g. because "Fred Barbara" is immediately followed by "Stanwyck Van Dorfalot". Ms. Stanwyck has 3 movies in this collection, by the way. ALL highly recommended.

If you install Everything and want to restrict its searches to just this collection, here is the syntax:

The quoted path limits Everything to searching that path. Needless to say, change it to your path LOL.

You need to keep the path SHORT because the folder names are long. If subtitles aren't loading for you, then your path is probably too long.

If "Crime" movies are your thing, search for:

"H:\TG 12-1\0 UPDATED\Christmas Movies" crime

to find the 12 movies in the Crime genre.

You can apply more than one search term. If you like funny romance movies, for example:

"H:\TG 12-1\0 UPDATED\Christmas Movies" comedy romance

will find the 30 movies with both of those genre tags. By default Everything ANDs the tags. Use the || operator if you want to OR them:

> "H:\TG 12-1\0 UPDATED\Christmas Movies" comedy || romance

That will find all of the videos with the comedy OR romance genres, including those with both.

I have tried to identify Hallmark and Lifetime movies as such, but it was a manual process which means I probably erred. If you see the genre "TVMovie", then it might be one of those.

I manually added a few tags.

"Angel" identifies movies with an angel. There are at least 6 in the collection. If I missed some, please comment to that effect.

"GroundhogDayPlot" identifies 5 movies which repeat an interval like Bill Murray's Groundhog Day.

"TimeTravel" identifies movies that ... There are 7 so labelled.

There is ONE "NotForKids" movie, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011).

My usual process for labelling videos with genres populated 32 videos as "Animations". Looking over the set in Everything, I think that they are all suitable for children, but there are a few I'm unfamiliar with. If you want to check before showing them to your kids, I recommend the site "commonsensemedia" which gives (IMO) reasonable and believable statements about the age suitability of movies and games etc. (Again, no affiliation).

To give you motivation to install and use the Everything utility, here is a screen shot of my search for "Animation".

From that list, you can right-click -> Open to go to the folder with the video. You can also do control-a (to select all of the videos in the list) then right-click -> Copy or right-click -> Cut, to copy or move the folders to another location, for example if you want to have a folder of ONLY child-suitable movies.

You can use Everything to identify videos with a given IMDB rating, e.g. if you're looking for the best.
