The Introspection album series is a joint project between van Leer and his master and mentor, conductor Rogier van Otterloo. The solo albums were created according to the same recipe: a couple of tracks by van Leer from the Focus repertoire, a couple of tracks by van Otterloo, plus a number of classical compositions by Bach and other greats arranged by van Otterloo. Van Otterloo is a worthy pianist and flautist himself, and his arrangements for flute and orchestra are particularly good. The excellent vocals of Letty de Jong give the music a special flavor. Unearthly, divinely beautiful music.
In 1977, van Leer's first solo albums were released on double vinyl, then in the 90s - as a double CD box, and in 2003, the BGO label released them on a single CD. In total, sales of these first van Leer solo albums exceeded 1.2 million copies
