NO SPOILERS: Haven't watched Doctor Who in years because I got annoyed with the way Steven Moffat was steering the show. But he's gone and Russell T. Davies is back so I gave this a go. It's certainly a more modern and realistic feeling show than what I remember from ten or so years ago. The effects and other technical aspects of the show are so much better now, and the creature design is top-notch. They're spending over £10 million ($11.5 million) per episode and it shows. If your entire personality is based around being "anti-woke", then you already made up your mind about this episode, and you're gonna watch it to get triggered and cry. Fine. For the rest, you'll probably just notice that the way they handle this certain 'controversial' topic [I'm avoiding spoilers] is perhaps a bit forced and ham-fisted. However, it isn't out of the ordinary for this show. Doctor Who has had plenty of examples of being "woke" going back to the 60s. It has always championed the underdog and rallied against bigotry in all forms. Anyway, more than anything, you're going to be glad David Tennant is back and that he is clearly excited to be there. He is having an absolute blast, as is Catherine Tate, and it's really enjoyable to witness. It's a fun ride that doesn't dwell anywhere too long, it keeps you interested. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. |
The most bigoted people I know are woke as they classify people by race or sex and into opposing groups and want to meet quotas when hiring people based on this in the name of diversity rather than merit. It's an insult to effort and hard work for all people and is a minority-supremacy mindset. |
there's 60s 'progressive' and there's modern 'woke', this is utter shit. |
Have you seen what they did to Davros? And Davies explanation of that? Sorry, Davies is not saving the show. |
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Doctor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_(2023_specials) David Tennant is back, honestly the best Doctor. |
I have to disagree with Guest-3525 and icandigit, and agree with Guest-8182 and Guest-3635 to a point. Regarding the Doctor, David Tennant is THE best Doctor during the Doctor Who 2005+ era. I've been re-watching the episodes from Seasons 2 as a lead-up to the specials. If I could say something to the Doctor and Donna Noble I'd say "You are brilliant". Things started to go downhill after Russell T Davies left as showrunner. Thankfully he's back, and I hope they get the franchise back on track. Guest-3525 and icandigit, Doctor Who has always been a show that's pushed "left-leaning" narratives, but it became more of a show focussing on doing that and lost its path. A shift that hasn't worked and wasted the talent of Jodie Whittaker. She's going to have to deal with that and will go down as the worst Doctor sine 2005 because of it. I don't blame her for that, the writing was woeful. The specials so far I've enjoyed. And it may seem like they're shoving a bit of trans-binary stuff in. But I found it delivered entertainingly, regardless of whether or not it fits my ideals. Ncuti Gatwa is going to have quite the challenge when he takes over the reigns. If it was straight after Whittaker he might have had it a little easier now Russell T. Davies is back. But following Tennant and Tate after these specials..... Well, I wish him luck, and I hope he succeeds now they have Disney+ money and Davies back. And thanks to the uploader(s). |
Given what Davis said about the change to Davros there is no chance of this succeeding. |
So what is this? Season 13 was named "Flux" and that was 6 episodes. Episode 5 of that season was "Survivors of the Flux," and those are the only 2 times the word "Flux" has been used for Dr Who titles. |
Its a special S00E162 The Star Beast critical to story November 25, 2023 |
It is a "Special" in 3 parts but let me tell you there is nothing special about this and what they've done to Dr Who. |
Have to agree with Guest-2525. The story had potential until it devolved into a "box-ticking" exercise (last 8 or 9 minutes). It went from being "kind of ok" to "give me a break - not more of this crap". |
I give thanks to the uploader for getting this up so fast, so to which episode it is YES IT IS S00E162 and NOTHING ELSE. Not the best of Doctor Who but not bad either irregardless of comments to the contrary. |
its the first of 3 specials for the 60th anniversary (each saturday) before the final special on xmas day. they all preceed season 14. |
