 | Having watched the first episode: didn't care about the comedic villains routine. The wardrobe department outdid themselves with all of the heather woolens. Ashley Jensen has been well (type)cast for her character. The question is how well will that character function in the Shetland universe (especially as it's written abrasively). Is it just a transient mentor to allow Alison O'Donnell to mature/grow? And if she's here to stay, how will they shift her from the Met to Police Scotland? Finally, rejoice, Jamie Sives is back as the boyfriend (yes, I'm looking at you Annika). |

| Thx. Fan of this series. With Douglas Henshall having departed from the series, will be interesting to see whether it can be held together without Henshall's quiet intensity, but I'll get it a go. |

| After giving her a more prominent storyline in the last season, and her interaction with Douglas Henshall in the last episode, I thought they would promote Alison O'Donnell into the lead and center the show around her. That would also give them the oportunity to muse about/contrast being a detective (and mother) with a young child - something no other cop show does (The Chelsea Detective had a bit of it in season 1, but only with a supporting character and they dropped it in season 2). And it would have been a nod to passing on the responsibility for the future onto a younger generation. If anything, this decision feels like a slap in the face of Alison O'Donnell (of course, unless she personally didn't want to take on the lead role). |
