 | After giving her a more prominent storyline in the last season, and her interaction with Douglas Henshall in the last episode, I thought they would promote Alison O'Donnell into the lead and center the show around her. That would also give them the oportunity to muse about/contrast being a detective (and mother) with a young child - something no other cop show does (The Chelsea Detective had a bit of it in season 1, but only with a supporting character and they dropped it in season 2). And it would have been a nod to passing on the responsibility for the future onto a younger generation. If anything, this decision feels like a slap in the face of Alison O'Donnell (of course, unless she personally didn't want to take on the lead role). |

| It will be interesting to see how Shetland proceeds with out Henshall. He was the show as far as I'm concerned. A good supporting cast, but he was really the show. I only know Ashley Jensen from and as Agatha Raisin. She was good in that show, but this is a whole different vibe. I don't expect it to be the same show, just close and at least as good as every previous season of Shetland. |
