 | Hello! RE: 10bit vs 8bit... I'm not an expert by any means but the norm seems to be h264 8bit, h265 10bit. This is what RARBG did. I think going 8bit on h264 was for compatability reasons, and there's probably a good reason why they choose 10 bit for h265. Not noticeable to some but maybe to others? Maybe it depends what monitor/TV you're using? |

 | Hey! As far as I know (and I am also no expert in this field), if the source file is 8bit, encoding it in 10bit will just save those 8bits of color in 10bit format. On some reddit posts I have read that encoding in 10bit will help with color banding of 8bit color but I have also read as many, if not more... /1 |

| ...posts that state they don't notice any difference, because encoding in 10bit doesn't magically convert 8bit source to 10bit. I know that the norm is x265 10bit but because I can't, for the life if me, notice any differece I decided to just encode in 8bit. /2 |

| Also, I must also state that my encode settings are not the exact copy of RARBG settings and because every encode I do is primarily done for my own library, I don't stress too much about it not being the same as RARBG or 10bit for that matter. /3 |
