The most famous member of the group was drummer Mick Underwood. He began his musical career playing with Ritchie Blackmore when both were still beardless youths. Then there was a short collaboration with The HERD and participation in EPISODE SIX, where Mick played along with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover. In 1974, after leaving QUATERMASS, he created STRAPPS. The band recorded their debut album at Gillan's Kingsway Recorders studio in London in 1976 (produced by Roger Glover). This was followed by participation in the British tour of Deep Purple. Until 1979, the band recorded three more studio albums and one live at The Rainbow, which was never released at the time. Despite working closely with members of the legendary band, Strapps' music wasn't exactly hard rock. Rather, it did not fall under any stylistic boundaries - in places a funky rhythm, vocals reminiscent of Peter Hamill, a melody similar to The Sparks. After the breakup of the Strapps, Underwood worked with The Ian Gillan Band and other musicians. Unfortunately, the band's albums were underestimated - the third and fourth were released only in Japan, only their first album was re-released on CD.
