Sharks (The Sharks - "sharks") are a British rock band formed in November 1972 by former Free member Andy Fraser, during his second and final departure from the group, vocalist Steve Parsons, nicknamed Snips, guitarist Chris Spedding and an American drummer. Marty Simon. The new band signed to Island Records and received favorable reviews from critics, especially for their playing by guitarist Chris Spedding. In early 1973 they went on a UK tour and also appeared on the BBC Two program Old Gray Whistle Test. The band had their own car, the Sharkmobile, an old Cadillac with a grille stylized as shark teeth. On February 19, 1973, while returning to London from a concert in Kliptrop, the car skidded and crashed into a tree. Frazier suffered a wrist injury and considered another band during treatment. The tour continued until the end of April, however, Frazier had some difficulty due to injury. The debut album First Water was released in April 1973. Shortly thereafter, Frazier leaves the group and the search for a replacement begins. The candidates apparently included Tom Robinson, Ric Grech and Boz Burrell. Mick Jagger recommended Memphis bass player Bust Cherry Jones. A new UK tour with this line-up began in September 1973 and continued until March 1974, when the second album Jab It in Yore Eye was released. The band then toured the US in April and May 1974. Upon their return to the UK, the band began recording their third album Music Breakout. But in the toga, Simon was replaced by Stuart Francis, and Jones returned to the States. Island Records was no longer interested in the master tapes of the album. The group disbanded in October 1974. After the breakup, Spedding was engaged in session work and solo work, Snips sang in the Baker Gurvitz Army.
