Is he the same Bogart that does not respect the puff-puff-pass rule? I always thought that was Humphrey. |
A very effective movie. Just the scene of how "Love to Love you" was produced makes it an enjoyable watch. Jordan's portrayal of Bogart makes his character very relatable. Plus, great soundtrack...3 out 4 stars... |
wow, what an absolute jerk. hurt so many people for his own adulation and profit producing absolute immature garbage and wouldn't 'take any of it back.' this is what happens when the chosen people forget their purpose... |
My issue with the film is that they seemed to go out of their way to make at least two of their top performers, wrong. What I mean by WRONG is, well, let's take Donna Summer, a tall, svelte, black woman, and what we get for her is a short, pudgy, Rosie Perez talking actress, who, although can sing, can't hit Donna's notes (I've seen drag queens that look more convincing as Donna then the actress portraying her here). Then we have, KISS, who basically WAS Casablanca Records for a long time, being played firstly by a guy who has the looks and nose, of Twisted Sister's Dee Snider (and that's suppose to be Paul Stanly) and Gene gets off none better, as the guy playing him is kinda wussy and looks Asian with his make-up on. Oh, and DO NOT get me started on their make-up, I mean, WHOLLY CRAP, I get that they probably couldn't afford Gene's fees for using their actual make-up designs, but come on, what they came up with looks silly, and makes them look even sillier (not to mention that the first song we hear them playing is, Shout It Out Loud, which wasn't created till much later, Rock And Roll All Night, though also not created till later as well, at LEAST, would have better fit the time period that they were trying to represent. So, it was watchable, but like with pretty much every bio pic, it leaves a LOT to be desired, and if you're really curious about the rise and fall of Casablanca Records and the people behind it, I'd suggest looking on YouTube for a documentary, as this aint it. |
Anything YOU hate, I'll watch for that reason alone. At least I'll be able to actually give a first-hand review, not waste people's time with wiki's and third-hand opinions. |
Reviews are not good, because it's written and directed by the real life son of the movie character, the story is embellished to make him out more than he was in real life https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2071590/reviews?ref_=tt_urv also reading his Wiki page, if he was so infamous, why aren't there paragraphs after paragraphs of his accomplishments and legacy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Bogart Compare his Wiki page to the Wiki pages of some of the artists he signed like Donna Summer, Village People and Kiss https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donna_Summer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_(band) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Village_People See the difference in content, length and material. Or better yet, compare this Bogart guy to another record executive music producer so we can actually compare apples to apples. Quincy Jones https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy_Jones (see how long his Wiki page is compare to Bogart's Wiki page that is more like a footnote!) |
If it is not Paul Stannley and Gene Simmons it is not KISS! |
Really really fascinating information. Thank you from the bottom |
Everything you say makes you not want to see a film are actually all the things which make stories possible at all. If all I did was quote all the reviews members and guests do of YOU without ever having seen you in person, would that be fair to you? No. It would be funny, but it wouldn't be fair. |
So length of Wiki page is now a criterion? By Jove, are you for real? You do know that Wiki pages are written by you and me and every other user of the internet, not experts, scientists, connoisseurs. Only over time these pages become valuable and trustworthy, until the next nincompoop makes yet unverified changes. |
