This American group was founded in late 1966 by members of the Dedrick family - Chris, Bruce and sister Sandy, younger sisters Ellen and Stefanie joined the group later. Their uncle Rusty Dedrick, a renowned jazz trombonist and arranger, helped secure a record deal with Enoch Light's Project 3. At first they tried to copy the Beach Boys' playing style, but when they decided to make their own, they created their own ethereal sound with a touch of folk and beat, a kind of "sunshine pop" with baroque elements. Now their music seems more elegant than many performers of that period, and some critics call them one of the best groups of this genre, and at one time they did not achieve success, failing to rise to the glory of fellow countrymen "Peter, Paul and Mary", nor to show a strong competition to such groups as "The Mamas & Papas" or "Association", so in 1972 they broke up. Only the first album charted, and the 1970 children's album Sing for Very Important People was in the children's charts. In the 1990s and early 2000s, their songs were often covered by many contemporary artists, such as such favorites of the intellectual public as Stereolab, Cornelius, Beck and others. On this wave, the group reunited, successfully toured in 2000-2001 and released a new album, which was recorded not with a newfangled "synthesizer" sound, as many pop-soft-rock artists sometimes do, but in the same "sixties" style, like their first CDs, and surprisingly it finally hit the charts. Unfortunately, neither Chris nor Stephanie Dedrick are with us anymore, but their magnificent talent still pleases fans of the music of the sixties.
