In 1980, an assistant in the Department of Defense Warren Lasky is assigned by his mysterious chief Richard Tideman to visit the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz commanded by Capt. Matthew Yelland as an observer of the routines. Lasky finds that Wing Commander Richard T. Owens has a great knowledge of history. Out of the blue, the vessel faces a weird storm and they find that they have traveled back in time to the eve of the attack of Pearl Harbor on 06 December 1941. When the two Japanese Zeros attack the motorboat of Senator Samuel Chapman, the crew of the Nimitz rescues the senator and his assistant Laurel Scott. But sooner Lasky learns that the senator had disappeared on that day and Capt. Matthew Yelland is planning to attack the Japanese. Will these actions create a time paradox?

Per la scena della battaglia tra F-14 e caccia giapponesi furono impiegati veri velivoli, con grande difficoltà per i moderni Tomcat a compiere evoluzioni aeree insieme ai lentissimi Zero (in realtà repliche su base North American T-6 Texan realizzate in precedenza per il film Tora! Tora! Tora!): in un'occasione gli Zero persero totalmente il controllo a causa delle turbolenze dei Jet, mentre in un'altra un F-14 compì una manovra talmente esasperata, per portarsi in coda al lento aereo a elica, che sfiorò di pochi metri la superficie del mare.
Real aircraft were used for the scene of the battle between the F-14 and Japanese fighters, with great difficulty for the modern Tomcats to perform aerial evolutions together with the very slow Zeros (actually replicas based on a North American T-6 Texan previously made for the film Tora! Tora! Tora!): on one occasion the Zeros totally lost control due to the turbulence of the Jets, while in another an F-14 performed such an exasperated maneuver, to get behind the slow propeller plane, which touched the surface of the sea by a few metres.

Nel 1980 alla US Naval Air Station dell'aeroporto di Pearl Harbor giunge il signor Lasky, un analista civile di sistemi, quadro delle industrie Tideman e consulente del Dipartimento della Difesa, per essere imbarcato sulla portaerei USS Nimitz. Durante la navigazione la portaerei è investita da un'improvvisa e misteriosa tempesta magnetica. Quando tutto sembra esser tornato alla normalità le comunicazioni con la base sono interrotte e viene captato solo un vecchio programma radiofonico con i comici Stanlio e Ollio. Due aerei ricognitori rilevano la presenza di navi statunitensi d'epoca ancorate nel porto militare di Pearl Harbor.
