Fausto Perbellini and Fausto Biasutti are middle-aged loners who strike up an unlikely friendship on account of a shared first name. They share a common goal: living a frugal life in the countryside escaping from Rome's hustle. After their relocation into the Biasutti's inherited house in the Friuli hills, they clumsily attempt to farm, while trying to ingratiate themselves with the local folk. Io vivo altrove!, il film diretto da Giuseppe Battiston, vede protagonisti Fausto Biasutti (Giuseppe Battiston) e Fausto Perbellini (Rolando Ravello).
I due, oltre ad avere lo stesso nome, hanno la passione per la fotografia e odiano vivere in città.
Si incontrano per la prima volta in occasione di una gita in campagna per amanti della fotografia del paesaggio e nasce subito un'amicizia tra i due.
Approfondendo la conoscenza scoprono di avere il grande sogno di abbandonare la grande città e trasferirsi in campagna a contatto con la natura.
La grande occasione si presenta quando Biasutti eredita la casa della nonna Adele a Valvana, sulle colline del nord est, e coinvolge subito il suo amico Perbellini.
Pieni di entusiasmo, i due partono alla conquista della loro nuova vita, ma dovranno fare i conti con le ostilità della gente del posto. Biasutti scopre infatti che la nonna parlava male di lui in paese e che i pregiudizi su chi viene dalla grande città sono difficili da sradicare in alcuni posti. Ecco perché integrarsi nella comunità sarà una bella sfida da affrontare...
