In the early 70s, the Skopje music scene was so small that the future members of “Leb Sol” often hung out in the same bands. The band's history officially began on January 1, 1976, when Vlatko Stefanovski (guitar) and Bodan Arsovski (bass) collaborated with keyboardist Kokan Dimuszewski and drummer Dimitri Ciociorovski. First, the quartet recorded several singles for "Radio Skopje", and in 1977 for the first time got out of Macedonia. The performance in Novi Sad led to an invitation to the youth festival in Subotica where the “hospitable guys” took the prize and received a contract from PGP-RTS. In August of the same year, "Leb I Sol" played a number of concerts as the opening act for the leading Yugoslav rock band Bijelo Dumge, with Garabet Tavityan now sitting on the drums.
In September, sessions of the debut album were held, composed of jazz-rock themes with a national flavor. six out of ten compositions were entirely instrumental, and all four contributed to their composition (although Vlatko was the most productive). The record took a leading position in the Yugoslav hit parade, and therefore, when recording the second album, the studio conditions improved markedly. “Leb i Sol 2” retained the style of its predecessor, while offering listeners such wonderful things as “Aber Dojde Donke” , “Marija” , “Talasna Duzina”
The popularity of the band grew significantly, and in 1978 the readers of the magazine "Jukebox" awarded "Leb Sol" group of the year. After the third album, which includes such ambitious numbers as “Ruchni Rad”, “Kumova Slama”, “Verni Pas”, Kokan left the team, and Mika Petkowski took the place. However, this keyboardist did not last long in the saddle, and already in 1980 the group was reduced to a trio. For some time, "Leb Sol" were engaged in writing music for theatrical productions, and after a short tour, they began preparing the fourth full-length film. Having retained the ethno-future basis on “Beskonachno”, the band tried to move into the rock mainstream. Garabet soon left, and Dragoljub Gurichik sat down at the drums.
The musicians recorded the next disc on Radio Skopje, and for the first time they were engaged in sound production on their own. If earlier in the repertoire of “Leb Sol” instrumentals prevailed, then on “Sledovanje” all the tracks were vocalized. The new approach bore some fruit and the song "Nosim Tvoj Zid" became a national radio hit. In the summer of 1982, the team toured America for two months, where she had a chance to play on the same venues with “BigCountry”, cooperation with PGP-RTS was completed with the release of the acoustic live album “Akustichna Trauma”, after which the team moved to: Jugoton.
On the disc "Kalabalak", released in 1983, the ensemble returned to branded instrumentals, and keyboardist Bobby Misev and saxophonist Petr Kargov were involved as guests at the sessions. The next work "Tangenta" was notable for the appearance of the radio hit "Kontakt Je Skup" and the presence of the legend of the Canterbury scene Kevin Ayres as a producer. The hospitable team celebrated its tenth anniversary with the release of the album “Zvuchni Zid” (sound barrier), on which sound tracks for theatrical plays, films and television programs were collected. During the recording of the record, Tavitian returned to the line-up, but he fully joined the work only at the sessions of “Kao Kakao”
Here "Leb Sol" radically changed their style and, moving away from jazz roots, plunged headlong into rock. The album was accompanied by a number of hits and therefore the team tried to stick to the chosen direction on the next work. Kokan, who returned to his native land, took part in the recording of "Putujemo", but a year later Garabet again lost the installation to Dragoljub. Since then, no new works have appeared, and the group was mainly engaged in concert activities. In 1995 "Leb Sol" released a retrospective collection "Antology" and, after playing the last show in Thessaloniki, announced the self-dissolution of the group. More than ten years passed before Vlatko, Bodan, Garo, and Kokan got together again and began to delight the audience with “hospitable” performances.
