Textbook in PDF format

This interactive study guide will support candidates in developing fundamental knowledge and understanding of data management, systems analysis and design, information flow within organisations, and the impact of emerging trends in information technology. It explains key concepts within the Information Systems module and helps candidates prepare for their exams, including explainer videos, interactive questions and skills challenges aligned to the syllabus and with industry practice.
Information is critical to enable organisations to understand what has happened, what needs to happen and what could happen in the future. Information can only be derived from data and th Chapter 2 gives an overview of how to work with data and how this should be managed.
Information systems are powerful tools to manipulate and exploit information, from both within and outside an organisation. Before embarking on any system development project, the real business need should be thoroughly analysed and evaluated. This analysis should consider the non-IT elements of change and define expected organisational benefits. The Chapter 3 looks at how a system should be justified and delivered to meet the needs of the organisation.
User experience (UX) considers how a user perceives and reacts to an information system. The design of the information system can influence this. If the user experience is bad then the quality of the information system is compromised. The Chapter 7 looks at how to ensure interfaces are designed to meet user needs so that people will choose to interact with them.
Having completed the design of your information system to meet your customer needs, the next stage is building it and letting others use the system. The Chapter 9 "Develop and deploy" covers the techniques and processes to be aware of when programming the code, testing the system, how to plan the release to stakeholders and how to maintain/improve the system going forward.
Software testing is a critical part of developing software. It ensures the quality of the solution or application, making sure that it does the jobs that the customer has asked for. Quality management is explored in Chapter 5. Having a structured process to evaluate and verify the software helps to make sure that we don’t miss any problems. The benefits of testing include preventing bugs, reducing development costs and improving performance
