It is a common misconception that Russian roulette is an invention of Russian officers. The history of the origin of Russian roulette is obscure. The game was not mentioned in any written source until the 20th century. The term "Russian roulette" was first recorded in print in 1937. The famous American publicist and journalist at the time, George Surdez, wrote an article of the same name. In Russia before 1918 there could not be such game, because both orthodox Christian faith spread among officers and Islam unambiguously consider it a way of suicide and forbid it. |
