This book aims to provide an overview of a new class of lead-free ferroelectric compounds namely Aurivillius phase materials. The emphasis is laid on their properties owing to their layered structure and their potential applications in ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM), capacitors, sensors, transducers, actuators, and other electronic devices. Most of the literature available on ferroelectrics deals with all types of ferroelectric materials in general. This book discusses explicitly the materials belonging to the Aurivillius family. Amongst the different types of ferroelectric materials, Aurivillius phase materials present distinctive properties due to their unique structure and they also possess a high Curie temperature (>300 °C). There are a wide range of materials which belong to this family and can be subdivided into many more categories according to the number of layers that they possess. This book addresses the need to address exclusively this family of layered ferroelectrics in detail.
