Definitely a hard watch. This is one film i doubt the "usual suspects " on this forum will watch nor comment on. The true life events of this story have left an indelible stain on this nation's history (one of many, I'm afraid ) that's not up for debate or reinterpretation . A child was brutally and horrifically murdered for no other reason than the color of his skin. That, and the four little girls blown up in Birmingham. should have caused the the streets of this country to flow with rivers of blood. The self restraint of an entire people was astounding to me. But those images i saw as a child are forever burned into my memory for the rest of my days on this earth. |
This should have been a gripping watch, but was a melodramatic sentimental white wash (pun intended)...The acting was terrible and to see Whoopi Goldberg, a ridiculous excuse for an actor, and nothing but a WOKE non-celebrity commentator at best, sealed the deal...Couldn't get half way through the movie and not a result of the subject matter...My comments are no reflection on the tragedy of actual events but please... how it scored 7.4 on IMdb is beyond comprehension! |
Sometimes there are stupid people who do stupid things and its hard enough to deal with it at the time. I don;t know if I could watch this. |
@Guest-1754 Harder than the Rwandan genocide?! Now, don't get me wrong - what happened with that child was awful & the ones that did it - don't deserve to be regarded as humans by modern standards. Even more than that, there's multiple other racist crimes which bare a similar if not stronger sentiment (the lack of humanity - of some of our ancestors). STILL (even so), the way you phrase your wording (in agreement with others too) - make it sound worst than that actual event. As if... you were expecting a genocide - where beyond the guilty party (the bad apples - those damned racists - if you will) - "as it usually goes" - the majority who suffer are actually innocent. Yet, if something like that happened in Africa (or at least region where the majority are black) - we'd probably have a tragedy fitting to your expectations in the history books - where all withes from that region would get massacred - for the few psychos who happens to be withe. Fortunately, that wasn't possible in the U.S. cause the majority where white (this being the reason - while things evolved as they did). Furthermore, as much as i can agree (quite obvious by now) - that "a lot of whites were in the wrong (far from the majority)" - it's still whites (those being in the majority) - who abolished that level of racism. Same type of whites who are still fighting any type of racism against the black community - while in the same time - ignoring the shift of cards, as in.... black racism against whites (even if not to that extent - or even close - since whites are still in the majority - thus, there's restraints from physical violence - yet not emotional - they're still down the brake the spirit of anyone born white - for that reason alone "color of their skin"). Last but not least, which i why i used that example above (the Rwandan genocide) - the history books are filled with savagery - with atrocious acts against fellow human beings "without exception in regards to race (color of one's skin)". You can find awful people under any race. Yet, if you're racist yourself - you can also look at the world (or human history) - with tunnel vision and cast the blame & actively hate - just one (white people). It's 2022 ffs. |
The fact is that Eurocentric colonial settler imperialism is the dominant power structure on this earth and has been for the past 500 years, Europeans overtook entire continents and imposed systems of power that endure until this day which oppress the global south with military interventions and corporate exploitation. |
