The group was formed in the 60s in Belleville, Illinois under the original name "The Unknowns". In 1967 they got a manager, Ron Lipe (Prince Knight), who worked as a disc jockey for radio KSHE in St. Louis and was signed to Sire Records. Their style was clearly influenced by The Beatles, The Byrds, The Youngbloods, The Lovin' Spoonful. Since 1965 they have released several singles on Marlo Records. Then in 1968 they changed the band's name to Spur and signed a new record deal with Cinema International. Their only album, Spur Of The Moment, was recorded here. After the release of the album, active touring began, where they performed with The Grateful Dead, The Byrds, Cream, Bob Seeger, The Rascals, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Vanilla Fudge, Country Joe And The Fish", "Pacific Gas And Electric", Steve Miller. By the standards of the time, the team lasted not so little - from 1965 to 1972.
