Two crew members are stranded on a spacecraft and quickly - and horrifically - realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Due astronauti, il tenente Payton e il Caporale Bower si risvegliano nella loro nave spaziale Elysium che è stata lanciata nel 2174 avendo come meta il pianeta Tanis.
La Terra è ormai sovrappopolata e le risorse sono minime e fatte oggetto di lotta per la sopravvivenza.
Su Tanis sembra sia possibile ricominciare. I due, che avrebbero dovuto far parte di un turno di operatività, si ritrovano però soli nell'immensa astronave.
Bower inizia un'esplorazione che lo porta a una terribile scoperta:
pochi umani sono sopravvissuti come tali. Gran parte dell'equipaggio e di quella che avrebbe dovuto essere una sorta di Arca di Noè di terrestri si sono trasformati in mostri assetati di sangue.
