The only album of "Swampgas" - a group from Long Island (New York) led by guitarist Baird Hersey. The group formed in 1968. They performed extensively in local bars and clubs until they moved to Middletown in 1969, where Baird attended college. In the spring of 1970, the band played as the opening act for the Grateful Dead. The wife of one of the organizers of Woodstock '69, Artie Kornfeld, was at this concert, and she advised her husband to pay attention to the group. After a week of listening, Artie's record company Eluethera Records (an affiliate of Buddah Records) signed them to a contract. In the summer of that year, they recorded the album at A & R Studios in New York and mixed it at the Record Plant. At the time of recording, they settled in a renovated barn in Ancramdale, New York. After the album was finished, due to problems at Eluethera Records, the release date was delayed indefinitely, and the band, seeing no prospects, disbanded. In 1972, "Buddah Records" without the knowledge of the musicians still released a disc, but without touring support and proper advertising, this excellent disc failed. Baird Hersey went on to release two solo albums, Lookin' For That Groove in 1978 and ODO OP8 FX in 1980. Kim Ornitz has had a successful film career as a sound engineer.
