Artist: The Rationals
From: USA
Album: The Rationals
Released: 1970 (2011)
Genre: Garage/Psychedelic Rock
Format: MP3 CBR 320

The history of the group began in the city of Ann Arbor (Michigan) in the bedroom of the parental home of Steve Correll, where he jammed with another aspiring guitarist - Scott Morgan. Soon they were already performing as a duet at school parties, and then they were joined by Bob Pretzfelder, who had a drum kit. The name "The Rationals" for the group came up with Steve's brother - Richard, it is associated with mathematical rational numbers. When Steve's parents sent him to military school, Scott started playing with Terry Trabandt and high school student Bill Figg. When Steve returned in 1964, Terry switched to bass guitar. At first, the group was instrumental, but at one of the parties, Scott sang ‘Money’ by The Beatles and the audience enthusiastically accepted his singing. The group's manager was Hugh "Jeep" Holland, who expanded their repertoire and broke into radio play. He also took the boys to a real studio in Detroit, where they recorded their first single, "Gave My Love/Look What You're Doing To Me Baby," released on Holland's own label, A-Square Records. The title track became a number one radio hit at Ann Arbor in the summer of 1965. In the recording of the next single, the band was assisted by Bob Seeger and their countryman James Jewel Osterberg, who is now known as Iggy Pop. Whereas their first tour was in Michigan, the band has now toured Canada as well. Well, their next single with a cover of Otis Redding "Respect" was interested in a real label - "Cameo", and even made it to Billboard (92nd place). It is no coincidence that the group was recognized as the best in Detroit by a WCBN radio poll. However, in the future, "The Rationals" were content with local popularity and failed to light up on a national scale. In 1968, The Rationals recorded their last single for A-Square and Cameo, parted ways with Holland, and subsequently released on local labels. In 1970, the group's first and last LP was released. In August of the same year, the group disbanded.
