thx for the torrent :) i am halfway and it seems to tell a more modern storyline than any i have seen before. normally phileas is depicted as, what is commonly known in the older english communities that remember the establishments of the british empire, a 'cad' or a 'bounder', like a modern day lovable rogue. instead here they have chosen to portray a more clueless and spineless fool. a different approach, but having never read the book, i am not sure how it differs from the original. David tennant gives another of his great performances and has plenty of good support, but there are a few moments i do wonder about the choices of where the story touches down. comedy has certainly become a loose term as, though i have been entertained, i am not sure where the humour is. i think the closest way to describe it would be to call it 'whimsical'. it is entertaining, just not sure it evens knows what it wants to be. |
