Revered Washington DC-area doom metal outfit King Giant has decided to call it a day, ending a twelve-year run as a band. However, with the demise of one band at hand, its members have already created and launched a new band from the ashes of King Giant. Welcome, Pimmit Hills.

Repeatedly referred to as “my favorite unsigned band” by multiple staff members at Invisible Oranges, King Giant delivered their special blend of southern metal since 2006, within that span releasing one demo, one EP, and three full-length albums to much critical acclaim. They created quite a buzz with their zombie-filled mini-horror film in support of their song “Appomattox” and as recently as 2016 they were direct support for doom metal legends Pentagram during an East Coast tour. But all that has come to its conclusion with the amicable departure of guitarist David Kowalski. The band has recently announced that King Giant would be no more and that the remaining members have formed a new band, Pimmit Hills.

The members collectively offer: “In late 2017 David Kolwalski told the rest of the band that real life responsibilities were making it increasingly harder to participate in King Giant. Eventually, he left the band but encouraged us to continue with King Giant. While we didn’t want him to go, we all understood and respected his reasons for doing so. We are very proud of the music we’ve written and recorded together, and we wanted to respect that collection of work as well as the fans that supported it. Since we knew we wouldn’t be playing those songs without Kowalski, we decided to start a new band rather than continue as King Giant”.

They continue on the choosing of their new moniker: “Deciding upon a new name wasn’t easy, but Pimmit Hills made sense to us since we’ve been writing and rehearsing at what we call "the compound" in Pimmit Hills, Virginia for many years now. It’s home to us and meshes well with our aesthetic - southern-flavored heavy blues, Appalachia, and Americana in decay”.

Pimmit Hills has already hit the ground running, booking new shows, writing new songs. The band has plans of entering the studio in the fall to record with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Government Issue) at Magpie Cage Studio to record their debut LP, with an anticipated release in early 2020.

You can catch Pimmit Hills’ debut show July 13th, 2019 in Washington DC, with more new shows to be announced in the weeks ahead.

Curent Members: Keith Brooks - Drums, David Hammerly - Vocals,
Todd Ingram - Guitar, Floyd Lee Walters III - Bass.
