Storyline:
Satô's latest effort is far from his best work, but it's not a total waste of time. Cute Devil has a promising opening. Sickening wide-lensed shots show a man snipping off another guy's junk with garden clippers while a woman looks on, expressionless. From there, we jump back and forth in time as someone seemingly separate from the incident (Yusuke Sugiyama) unpacks a tale with Rashomon-like layers. The film's grisly opening and closing scenes are definitely its strongest points. It's hard to wrong with detached penis being flung into the sea, bobbing up and down, floating off into the distance.
