Plot:
Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End. She is surprised to find that she will be living in a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions of the slums, but she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers. Even after Jenny leaves Nonnatus, she continues to chronicle the lives of the midwives who have become her family.

Description
Call the Midwife S05-S06 complete (1280x720p HD, 50fps, soft Eng subs)

A heart-warming tale of life in London's hard-up East End. Midwives welcome new lives in the changing times of the 50s and 60s.

Series Five

E01
Easter approaches, and for the nuns and midwives of Nonnatus House it's as busy as ever as babies are born to myriad families across the borough. One such delivery brings with it its own set of shocks, as Patsy helps experienced mother Rhoda Mullucks give birth to a baby with severe deformities, with no clear explanation. As the mother refuses to reject her new-born child, the father struggles to come to terms with the harsh realities of his daughter's problems. Support and intervention from Sister Mary Cynthia, Dr Turner and Shelagh proves invaluable as they try to rebuild this loving family.

Meanwhile, the new exercise craze has reached Poplar, led by Nonnatus' very own Trixie. As she begins teaching a keep-fit class, she's surprised when the exercises lead to a medical emergency for one of her group. The experience leads her to realise that women sometimes lack a basic understanding of their own bodies, and she aims to rectify it, one patient at a time.

E02
Barbara experiences the biggest test of her career when a struggling dockworker's wife is forced into a difficult decision about her impending delivery.

Nurse Crane meets a new friend who promises great adventure but conceals a secret.

Sister Evangelina is forced to take action when a mistake comes to light.

E03
A outbreak of typhoid erupts, and suspicion over who the carrier could be threatens to break apart a closely knit family. Sister Winfred faces a personal dilemma when a local teacher is revealed to be pregnant by a married man. When the woman takes matters into her own hands, Sister Winifred is forced to consider the role her own prejudices may have played. Meanwhile, Barbara inadvertently agrees to go to dinner with Tom, but is wracked with worry about how Trixie will react.

E04
As the modern world begins to encroach on traditional Poplar life, everyone is starting to notice the changes. On secondment at a busy local hospital, Sister Julienne is impressed by the medical advances that are saving the lives of mothers and babies. But a traumatic birth raises moral questions for her which she struggles to answer.

As the medical world is changing, so is society at large, with opportunities in education increasingly open to all. Despite his working class background, Ian is overjoyed to be accepted into university and embraces his chance to escape Poplar, much to the disappointment of his more traditional mother Sadie. But his plans appear to be in ruins when girlfriend Linda falls pregnant. Trixie and Tom help the family, which begins to break apart under the pressure of this unplanned pregnancy.

E05
With modern advances starting to change things for the better, even medical professionals like Dr Turner and Shelagh are forced to consider their own lifestyles. As they fight for better respiratory health for their patients, Timothy realises the risks his parents are running by continuing to smoke.

Meanwhile, a back injury forces Violet to put her beloved shop in Fred's care, with unforeseen consequences.

Across Poplar, another family unit appears to be broken before it has begun, as new mother Roseanne's past continues to haunt her and wreaks havoc on her family life. Nurse Crane is concerned about her mental state and has to draw on her own experiences to help.

E06
The world may be moving forward, but women are still labouring under the social pressure of shame. When prostitute Lizzie is too ashamed of social judgement to report a violent attack, it allows a dangerous man to go free and target others, including one attack which rocks Nonnatus House to its core. It's shame that also makes mother Thora conceal her young daughter Diane's pregnancy, afraid of the neighbourhood gossip and the impact on her future.

After an especially busy period, Shelagh and Timothy secretly organise to take Dr Turner on a long-overdue family camping holiday, but a freak summer thunderstorm threatens to dampen their enthusiasm. Despite their best efforts, the holiday is cut short when Dr Turner realises his patients are at risk from the locum GP working in his absence.

E07
With autumn on its way, the appetite for change is rife across Poplar. As Dr Turner shares his excitement about the impending release of the contraceptive pill, not all of his counterparts at Nonnatus House are as keen for the social change it may bring. Meanwhile, Patsy realises that change isn't always for the best as she struggles to help a transient Bargee woman, who is determined to give birth among her own community, rather than the modern comforts of the maternity home.

As a huge storm threatens Poplar, Nurse Crane is called upon to assist a new mother in a post-natal emergency, the danger bringing a once-distant young couple closer as a result. As the storm subsides, it brings with it the welcome return of Sister Evangelina, herself changed by the time she has spent away from Nonnatus House.

E08
As Poplar moves towards the season of goodwill, the time has come to accept the things that have passed and look to the future. Dr Turner is forced to do so when the cause of the recent spate of infant limb deformities is finally uncovered. Realising that his own prescriptions could have exacerbated the tragedy, he jumps into action in an attempt to prevent further damage.

Meanwhile, Nonnatus House is thrown into disarray by a tragedy even closer to home. Although Sister Evangelina is back at work, it is clear that her recent stroke has affected her badly, and that her health problems are not over.

Elsewhere, Poplar matriarch Tessie is forced to accept that her grandchild has been conceived out of wedlock, but there's joy all round when the baby is born at the couple's wedding reception.

Christmas Special 2016
As Poplar enjoys celebrating a white Christmas, an unexpected SOS call from the Mother House interrupts festivities. Hope Clinic, a tiny mission hospital that has links to the Order is threatened with closure. A small working group of midwives and a cleric have been requested to travel out to South Africa to work at the clinic and assess its future viability. Sister Julienne swiftly procures the help of Sister Winifred, Trixie, Barbara, Nurse Crane, Dr Turner, Shelagh, Fred and Tom Hereward and they are soon transported to South Africa to try and save Hope Clinic. The African clinic poses many problems, and the team are both shaken and exhilarated by the challenges they are faced with: a water supply that's running dangerously low, no electricity and Dr Myra Fitzsimmonds, the clinic's doctor, who is suffering from a mystery illness. But the biggest hurdle is a neighbouring white farmer, who refuses access across his land for a new water pipe, which could save the clinic's future. The team dig deep and face these challenges head on, and achieve real success - a completed polio immunisation programme, several trips to save lives in remote locations and a caesarean performed by candlelight. In their courageous attempt to save Hope Clinic and make a difference to the lives of the people that use it, some of their own lives are changed forever.

Series Six

E01
The midwives receive a rapturous and warm welcome home from their South African adventure but all is not well at Nonnatus House. In their absence, Sister Ursula has been running a very tight ship and it is quickly announced that she will remain in charge at Nonnatus House, above Sister Julienne.

The midwives are drawn into helping Trudy, a heavily pregnant mother whose husband has just been released from prison for extortion. Gradually, the problems below the surface of their marriage become clear. Trapped and with no clear way out, Trudy's suffering sends shock waves through Nonnatus House, most noticeably affecting Sister Mary Cynthia who is experiencing increased anxiety following her recent attack.

Elsewhere, Shelagh harbours a secret and struggles to tell Dr Turner, and Patsy receives some distressing news about her father in Hong Kong.

E02
Sister Ursula continues to reign with an iron fist and the midwives at Nonnatus House struggle to toe the line, especially when she insists they must not be emotionally involved with their patients. This unpopular new edict is immediately put to the test when new father George Marsh is badly burnt in an explosion at the docks and is unable to support his new family, and when expectant mother Penny Reed and her anxious husband Derek are brought to the attention of Nonnatus House.

Penny and Derek both have achondroplasia (colloquially known as dwarfism) and problems with the pregnancy are anticipated, including their baby being stillborn or only living for a short time. As the midwives prepare the Reeds for an infant that may not live, their unconditional devotion to one another and to their unborn child makes a deep impact, especially on Patsy, who is facing one of her toughest decisions yet.

Elsewhere, barmaid Valerie Dyer's quick thinking catches Shelagh's attention when they are first on hand to deal with the casualties at the dock fire. Shelagh is appalled by the general lack of basic health and safety in the docks and strives to make a difference to the men that work there. Dr Turner and Shelagh also share the happy news of Shelagh's pregnancy with their children.

E03
The winds of change are blowing through Poplar, as a new government paper calls for the eradication of small hospitals in favour of large general hospitals. Dr Turner and Shelagh are informed that an inspection of the maternity home will decide its fate.

Sister Ursula has her own anxieties about the efficiency of Nonnatus House, so she introduces a new 20-minute rule for all antenatal and postnatal house visits. Barbara struggles the most with this, as she is drawn into helping a first-time mother from the Chinese community. It soon becomes apparent that the shortened visit might have allowed a serious oversight. With the future of the maternity home hanging by a thread, serious questions are raised over Sister Ursula's suitability for her role.

Meanwhile, Sister Monica Joan has started disappearing for long periods of time and there are growing concerns for Sister Mary Cynthia's whereabouts.

E04
An expectant mother with financial struggles enters into a painful arrangement with her cousin. As Tom provides pastoral care, he reveals why this case touched him more than most.

E05
Nonnatus House welcomes a new recruit, Nurse Valerie Dyer. A vulnerable young man captures Fred and Violet's hearts, whilst the whereabouts of Sister Mary Cynthia is a concern.

E06
Valerie Dyer cares for a pregnant Somali woman and is shocked by aspects of this unfamiliar culture. The nuns and midwives try to provide the best care for Sister Mary Cynthia.

E07
Dr Turner helps the Mullucks cope with the stresses of caring for a disabled child as the terrible legacy of thalidomide becomes apparent and Nurse Crane faces an unexpected crisis.

E08
Drama about a group of midwives in 1960s London. A wedding is hastily arranged following an unexpected turn of events. The arrival of the pill leads to unforeseen consequences.

Christmas Special 2017
Boxing Day brings a large snowfall that covers the country. The adverse weather causes major disruption across Poplar as roads become blocked and pipes freeze. The milk float struggles to make its deliveries and families must queue outside for water from standpipes. Trixie's holiday with Christopher is cancelled due to the snow. Valerie helps Linda and Selwyn, an unmarried couple living in a caravan, prepare for their baby. As the labour progresses, unforeseen complications knock Valerie's confidence in her ability as a midwife.

Elsewhere, the freezing weather takes the life of Dr Turner's patient, Percy Tillerson. Sister Julienne must inform the family of his death and uncovers an uncomfortable truth about the chirpy late Percy.

Tom is offered a new position in Birmingham, but it would mean him and Barbara leaving Poplar for at least six months. It's all hands on deck to help during the weather crisis, so Shelagh comes back to work. Nurse Crane meets her match in Sergeant Woolf as he challenges her driving ability and Akela leadership. Proving him wrong, Nurse Crane is instrumental in bringing the milk float back to Poplar.
