Kings of War combines Henry V, Henry VI and Richard III into a single, explosive play about leadership. Shakespeare’s kings are political leaders who come face to face with the ultimate responsibility: they must make the life-or-death decision of whether to go to war. Shakespeare draws us into the psychology of the rulers, while also revealing the machinations of their courtiers and advisors. Kings of War lays bare the mechanisms of decision-making in times of political crisis, exposing the dichotomy between national interests and self-importance.
For his portrayal of Richard III, Hans Kesting received the Louis d’Or in 2016. The play was also selected for the National Dutch Theatre Festival that same year. The jury’s report read: ‘Performed with crystal clear directing, breathtaking scenography and with perfect musical accompaniment, Toneelgroep Amsterdam demonstrates Shakespeare’s immortality during the 400th anniversary of his death. Let’s hope this Kings of war will be performed regularly in the Netherlands.’
As the cover art I found shows, these plays are in modern dress and presented
in studio. I just happened to think of Pirandello and Six Characters in Search
of an Author for the style. That play is available as well.
No interval is given but there are some interludes. See timestamps above.
The original capture of Kings of War was huge and I recoded it down from the source. The source was anonymous and not torrent-based. I'm grateful to have it for a torrent archive and viewership.
