I enjoyed this very much. I love it when my movies comes with long shots. One of the scenes is a car journey filmed from when they are getting in the car and it lingers on a bit after they have all exited the vehicle. You would think it would be tough acting like that in one single take. Well, at least it appears to be one single take. It reminded me of the famous scene in Children of Men when they were ambushed, it appears as one take but apparently it wasn't. Same with Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, apparently one take but seemingly not. What made this film better was that the screen was chopped off at the sides. I felt like I was squashed inside the car. There is a kind of jump shock, I think at about 1 min 40? when David 'is sorting things out' with the interloper, but you can kind of see it coming, well, you think it's coming, and it does. |
Had to watch an Amy Adams flick and and an Angelina Jolie flick before I got to this. Only watched this because I couldn't be bothered to download something else. Good movie. Raw and real - no CGI and 'green screen' nonsense. |
Loved this. Good hooked right in after the first few frames. Didn't want it to end. |
@ Cyberian Yup, this deserves it's 92% and Woman in the Window it's 26% This is one of those movies you skip over for like Woman in the Window Big, big mistake It is the triumph of compelling story-telling over a well-known pretty face and some special effects but with no story worth telling I will be more careful in future |
@ Guest-2133 This a lot more engaging than Woman in the Window Woman in the Window started off full of promise then quickly spiralled into a confusing, mish-mash of preposterous nonsense. On the other hand, this will keep you watching, or it did me anyway |
Certified Fresh Tomatometer score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 60 critics reviews. Critics Consensus: The Killing of Two Lovers unites deft direction and an artfully assembled cast in service of a powerful story. |
This is another one of those probably not everyone's cup of tea affair. And it is not a blood and guts movie either. The title and cover is kind of misleading to a degree. Of course you can also takes things in a less literal sense and take it as more abstract. You will probably appreciate/enjoy it more if you can relate to the subject matter. It is definitely low-budget but proves how far you can stretch a low budget. It was so low-budget that in one scene where a tailor's dummy/mannequin was supposedly being shot at (obviously blanks being fired) we were never shown any close enough shots to see any damage to the tailor's dummy/mannequin. That tailor's dummy/mannequin has to go back to the rental store undamaged The scenery was nice. Nice cinematography. Good use of framing. The foley artists really went to town with lots of 'metal clanging' etc. There were lots of long-shots; during a confrontation/a car ride, jogging away from a scene at the beginning. I couldn't really fault the acting and even the kid's performances were engaging. The main character just reeked of desperation and despair; and the guy who moved in on his wife was a right nasty piece of And at the end of the day it is nice to someone get their project on the screen. You can tell they gave it their all and it's made with love and care. Saying all that, it does leave you feeling kind of flat when it just like abruptly... ends, I was kind of drawn in and hungry more at that point |
