Summary

Ruling by divine right, but himself ruled by caprice, King Richard exiles Henry Bolingbroke and seizes
his father’s vast states. While Richard is distracted by a rebellion in Ireland, Bolingbroke returns to
England, intent on recovering his rightful property and, with the support of his disgruntled peers,
perhaps seizing the crown itself.

Dazzlingly eloquent and ceremonious, Richard II invests a weak and self-dramatizing man with tragic
status and represents Shakespeare’s most searching exploration of the meaning of kingship and the
rising powers that can destroy it.

My notes

  This is a new DVD rip with English subtitles of the Globe Richard II
which was previously posted from another source.  That source did not have
original subtitles.  Most of these notes repeat what I had in the previous
upload.  

 To the best of my knowledge this is completes my Shakespeare torrents from
the Globe.  They are mostly transcribed from DVD in torrent file types.  

 Charles Edwards can also be seen as Benedick in the Globe production of
"Much Ado About Nothing."  There are stunning performances by Edwards, Eve Best and
the entire ensemble in that torrent.  That Much Ado is also in this index group.
Another take on Richard II comes from The Royal Shakespeare Company starring David Tennant
which is also in this file group.

 Going down the cast list there are too many cross references to name but a few
are  William Gaunt (The Crucible at Digital Theatre) Sarah Woodward (Globe Merry Wives of
Windsor) and Jonny Glynn (Two Gentlemen of Verona at RSC.)  And director Simon Godwin
(NTLive The Beaux Stratagem, Twelfth Night) is legendary.   All are found on my list.
