Ghost in the Shell è un film del 2017 diretto da Rupert Sanders, basato sull'omonimo manga di Masamune Shirow.
In un futuro in cui la tecnologia ha completamente pervaso la vita delle persone, prende il via la storia del Maggiore Mira Killian (Scarlett Johansson), messa a capo della task force speciale Section 9. Mira è stata scelta grazie a una sua grande particolarità, che la rende superiore rispetto agli altri agenti: è infatti mezza umana e mezza cyborg, a seguito di un'operazione che l’ha salvata da morte certa.
A Mira viene assegnato un importante compito: fronteggiare e distruggere Kuze (Michael Pitt), mente criminale responsabile dell'attacco a un importante membro della Hanka Corporation, nonché grandissima minaccia in grado d’insinuarsi all'interno di qualunque mente cibernetica, assumendone il pieno controllo.
Durante questa difficile missione, Mira dovrà scontrarsi non solo con Kuze, ma anche con alcune dolorose verità del suo passato. Queste nuove consapevolezze potrebbero rimettere in discussione tutto quello in cui aveva sempre creduto e darle la forza per scoprire chi è la causa delle sue sofferenze.
