My notes
from IMDb:
"Audra McDonald won her record sixth Tony for performing "Lady Day at the Circle in the
Square Theater". The Tony for leading actress in a play was also the fourth category she
had won for. Previously winning Leading Actress in a Musical for the Gershwins' "Porgy and
Bess", Featured Actress in a Musical for "Ragtime" and "Carousel", and Featured Actress in
a Play for "Master Class" and "Raisin in the Sun". She holds the record for most awards for
performance and is the only person to have won an award in every acting category. "
It would be be better to say starring the phenomenal Audra MacDonald. Earlier I was able
to recode/rip the DVD of a performance at the LA Philharmonic of The Rise and Fall of the
City of Mahagonny by Bertolt Brecht. That was where I saw Audra MacDonald initially as
Jenny Smith and co-starring with Patti Lupone. It's in this file group.
Here MacDonald takes on the role and character of Billy Holiday. She is the
featured performer with no act break and many of the songs that made Billie Holiday famous.
As a study in character and articulation of the Holiday style I can't imagine anything
better. Comparing it with "Lady Sings The Blues" with Diana Ross or "The People Against
Billie Holiday" (2020) with Andra Day, well, that's for someone else to do.
"Lady Day At Emerson's Bar and Grill" was a capture by another file sharer not on
torrents. I'm grateful for the chance to download it. Here I've reduced the file size so
that more people can get it and keep it going as torrents for all to enjoy. The original high frame count is retained.
There are many biographic performances as one person shows. I'm reminded of Christopher
Plummer in "Barrymore" and I may bring that into this collection.
