Un figlio di nome Erasmus, il film diretto da Alberto Ferrari, racconta la storia di quattro amici, Pietro (Ricky Memphis), Enrico (Daniele Liotti), Ascanio (Luca Bizzarri) e Jacopo (Paolo Kessisoglu), legatissimi in gioventù tanto da condividere un'esperienza straordinaria come quella dell'Erasmus in Portogallo. Dopo vent'anni ognuno ha preso strade diverse, ma un triste evento fa ritrovare il quattro amici, ormai 40enni: la donna che hanno amato tutti loro è venuta mancare. Il gruppo si mette in viaggio vero Lisbona per i funerali, ignari che la vecchia fiamma ha lasciato loro una grande e importante eredità: un figlio di nome Erasmus e uno tra Pietro, Enrico, Ascanio e Jacopo è il padre.
Con una settimana di tempo, gli uomini, aiutati da un'altra ragazza, devono trovare il figlio ventenne e fare l'esame del DNA per scoprire chi tra loro è il vero genitore. Mentre attendono il responso, i quattro riscoprono la loro amicizia e quella leggerezza giovanile di un tempo, riflettendo sulle seconde occasioni e le opportunità che la vita offre all'improvviso.
